Sometimes, when you have a good combination, you best stick to it. That was my inspiration behind my latest cake. I was approached with the opportunity to create a cake for a cake auction at my school, and I was super pumped! Making cakes for others is fun, but when you can stretch your personal creativity, even better.
After a summer spent by the fire, something familiar came to mind: s’mores! These are something that everyone’s familiar with, but when you can bring it in another form, it always peaks interest.
Like always, I choose to do a layered cake. Going with the s’mores theme, the layers consisted of the classics: graham cracker, marshmallow and chocolate. To top off the cake, I made chocolate ganache and went for the “drip cake” look. Using toasted marshmallows, and full pieces of graham cracker and chocolate, it completed the look. I will definitely attempt a drip cake again, as I love the look of it and would be interested to see how it looks in different colours.
The cake auction was a great success, with over $250.00 raised in total, all going to Nutrition for Learning. If you would like to make a donation to this organization, please visit their website.
